One of the protégé’s of the legendary abhinaya guru, Smt. Kalanidhi Narayanan, Ramya has taught in the Diaspora for 40+ years and brings a unique perspective to the rich repertoire that she inherited from her gurus.

Using the principles of abhinaya that I have developed for myself to deconstruct and reconstruct a composition, students have the opportunity to explore and apply these techniques, principles, and processes. The goal is not merely to teach a specific piece, but to empower each participant with the tools to deepen their interpretive skills and develop or enhance their own creative expressions." Ramya

“In her performance-lecture and the workshop, Smt Ramya Harishankar brought alive the legacy of the legendary Guru Kalanidhi Narayanan - not merely by embodying her ideas, but also through the very process of thought that shaped them. Importantly, her nuanced artistry also brought personal reflections on the art of classical dance into the presentation and the workshop. The art of one of the greatest artists who shaped the history of Bharatanatyam in the 20th century is thus kept alive in living thought." Vaibhav Arekar, Artistic Director

“A flashback to old days with Kalanidhi Mamy! I liked particularly the suggestions and the freedom to improvise with ones own words - the important of eyes - the expressions of a thought, of a feeling. It was wonderful to revise a Padam which I have learnt decades ago and see it in a new perspective! Thank you, Ramya!”
